John Cleese – The secrets and boundaries of creativity
Monty Python legend and comedic genius, John Cleese shares his thoughts on the creative process, writing, interruptions and getting in “the mood”. A must watch for bloggers and anybody who expresses themselves creatively.
People who have absolutely no idea what they’re doing have absolutely no idea that they have no idea what they’re doing. In particular, he reveals the power of observation. Ideas do not come from your laptops. So, have you observed a customer or non-customer lately?

Thanks for this. So fascinating. I can’t believe Cleese has a science background. I heard recently to be mindful (present and aware), you need to be mindless. Cleese uses the example of getting stuck on a problem then going to sleep, waking up and the problem being resolved (so much so he couldn’t remember what the original problem was!). I love the bit where he says we get our ideas from our unconscious. We just need to slow down, empty our mind first, create an ‘oasis in our life’ and then let the ideas just download… lol. Boundaries of space and boundaries of time.
